TrackDroid F.A.Q.

A: At the moment TrackDroid only works with the m5-rc15 version of Android platform.
We are working on porting it to the latest Android release. It will be available in mid-November 2008.
Please, bear with us.

A: It is Google Android application manager. It will let you search, install and delete software on your Android enabled device. It will keep track of software updates allowing you to have "the latest and greatest" every time.
Here is a short demo of TrackDroids' basic features.

A: Please go to our download page where you can pick a TrackDroid version for your platform.

A: We have prepared a setup package that will install android emulator with trackdroid software so you can start right away.

A: Lot's of things. First of all we would like you to create the account. Then you will be able to manage your software right from the web page.

A: After you create the account on our site, please go to "Developer" area where you can register yourself as developer and publish your software. Other people will see it immediately in their search results.

A: Thank god! Somebody asked. We have a whole page about us, please check it out.

AX: Yeah, unfortunately it happens to us too sometimes :). Please mail us at support@our site with a description of the problem. Thank you!

A: It's easy, just follow the steps:

1. Please log in to your account and go to "User Area" - > "Devices" and press "Register a new device"
2. You should see a message like "Your linking code is: c0de".
3. Please open TrackDroid application on the device you want to link (from the main screen press the "All" menu and then click TrackDroid icon).
4. Press the menu button on the emulator and then press "Link to site".
5. Please enter your linking code and press "Send"
6. Trackdroid will let you know about the result and you can switch back to the web site.
7. The page on site will tell you that device was linked and it will prompt you for the device name.
8. The last thing you'll have to do is to choose the model of your phone.

All the information received from our users is private and will not be disclosed to any third parties.

A: That notification will appear after TrackDroid installed an application to your device. Try and expand the tray panel (by click-hold-drag-to-the-bottom) that blinking item and click notification. Once you open the installed application list - TrackDroid will remove the notifications.

A: A pull is a message from web site, telling TrackDroid client that it should install, update or remove something on device. In order to give you more control about what is going on with the software on your device show this actions in a special list.
Open TrackDroid, press menu button on the emulator and click "Received Pulls" appeared in menu.
On the list of actions received from site (pulls) you can select to allow this action, to cancel it or to postpone.
But also you can "auto confirm" all "web actions" by selecting "Autoconfirm web-pulls" checkbox in TrackDroid options.
That's it.

A: Yes, but nothing too fancy. +word makes a word necessary; -word selects results that do not have the "word", *word* - select results that contain "word" as a part of another word.

A: Here are the steps:

1. In the "Developer" area of you account press "Add a new application"
2. type in the name of you product.
3. Now press "add new version" button to add a version for your product. And here I have a remark to add: we plan to have a long partnership with our end-users and with our developers. With TrackDroid you can keep track of your products, versions and binaries from our site. We also plan to give you more instruments for software updates, statistics and license management. And for that we need more information about your product, more then simply a name and a binary. Now we can proceed with adding a version.
4. Press "add new version" button.
5. Add some general info about your version. And press "Add version".
6. Add an icon to your version (under general info)
7. Also don't forget to add the binary images to your version. You can add a binary image for each platform version (yes, there can be many. Look at MS .Net). Each binary will have a version history visible only to developer.
8. And the last thing you may add about your version is screenshots.

That's all. Now your product is ready to be installed on devices. Try to search for it :)

A: Generally not. However, there is currently an issue in Android SDK that only allows to install packages with name that ends with ".apk" (a silly variable name typo). Therefore you should add a ".apk" to your main package name. (all hail the refactoring tools of Eclipse).
And don't forget to update your manifest too!

A: True, during our beta-testing we have tried to compile/run almost every android project we could find on the net. But only a few of them were able to run on latest SDK. And your project was one of those.
We were also looking to contact you, but a part of projects did not have any groups or email address, this is why this answer is here.

A: Most probably you don't have installer service present in /system/app. In case you have pushed it there before - remember that system image gets refreshed after each emulator reboot.
Please check that trackdroidinstaller.apk is still in your /system/app. If not - please push it there :)
To make this changes persistent you will have to re-pack system image or use the system image we are having in emulator. (backup your image, install android emulator from our download page)

A: It is a solution for software management on android platform. It consists of following components:

1. Application installer and application manager for the android device, runs on the phone and makes it possible to do the following:
   1. Easily install, update and uninstall any Android software.
   2. Provide convenient installation and uninstallation capabilities for Android software developers.
   3. Search and download the software matching user needs and hardware.
   4. Keep track of updates for installed software and apply them when available.
2. Web site. That allows to register users, user devices, software developers and their products.
   1. User can register their devices and manage their software from web page. Later their devices will synchronize with their site account.
   2. Developers can publish their new products and users can install them.
   3. Developers can also publish the updates for their existing products and users will be update automatically.
3. Web service that does the magic of linking the 2 above.
